The Kona Caldera is the crème de’ le’ crème of the all-mountain mountain bike “back country” line from Kona. The same real-world-rugged frame is used on the Caldera and on down to the affordable Blast. But a slew of upgraded parts make the Caldera a beauty to ride when the trail is, well, less than beautiful. A 105mm Marzocchi fork with adjustable preload will probably handle more than you’ll want to dish it. The FSA “ISIS splined” crankset and bottom bracket means no need to worry about possibly rounding out the cranks when things get rough. And if things get hairy, grab a handful of Hayes Hydraulic brakes to keep things in check. Deore and XT components, clipless pedals, and a whole slew of other parts round out this high end package you don’t want to miss.
