Tubus Logo rear luggage rack
$132.00
Tubus calls this rack their “expedition” rack, and its design solves problems that some bike frames have with other racks. The “expedition” comes from the fact that its extra structure allows you to mount panniers lower and further back on the rack. Mounting them lower drops the bike’s center of gravity, which improves stability especially with heavy loads. It also frees up more space on the rack’s top deck to attach gear above the panniers. Mounting the panniers further back is important because just lowering them would cause heal clearance problems on many bikes.
Moving the panniers back with this rack is a great problem solver. If your bike was designed specifically for loaded touring, it probably has fairly long chainstays, often 17” or 18” or longer. If your bike was not designed for loaded touring, its chainstays are probably shorter and you might find that your heals brush up against the rear panniers when you pedal. Depending on your specific panniers and rack, you might be able to work around this by sliding the panniers back on the rack. The Tubus Logo rack makes this easy to accomplish. Mounting the panniers further back also avoids interference with disk brake calipers, which are common on mountain bikes and starting to be equipped on other bike types too.
The Logo rack comes in one version to fit both 26” and 700c wheels. It is extremely rigid and durable, and is easy to fit on most bikes. It has a weight capacity of 88 lbs. (40 kg.)—more than enough for an expedition! It weighs 730 grams. It fits all bikes with the appropriate wheel sizes and a standard (non-suspended) rear triangle. The Logo requires frame mounted fittings at the rear axle (dropout) and on the seat stays, or you can attach it using J-clamps (not included). It is powder coat painted black.
All Tubus racks are constructed of thin-wall tubular CroMoly steel. This results in a carrier that is light weight and more fatigue resistant than an aluminum rack. Any rack can break if it is overloaded or damaged in an accident. Since Tubus racks are made of steel, they are easily repaired in the field with common welding equipment found in auto repair shops all around the world. This is not the case with aluminum racks, because aluminum can only be welded with special equipment that is not so common. Tubus racks carry a 3 year warranty, and during that period Tubus will deliver replacement spare parts free of charge anywhere in the world to the rack’s registered owner.
Note: Tubus racks, and any other racks constructed of steel or aluminum tube stock, are not compatible with child seats, Wald baskets, or any other accessories that use clamps fastened by nuts and bolts to attach to the rack. The clamps will crush the tube stock. For this type of accessory, use racks made with solid aluminum rod such as Blackburn racks.
