The Ultimate 5 has a new look, a new inner pocket, and is slightly larger than the previous version. This “medium” handlebar bag has a single compartment that measures 7.1” x 9.8” x 9.4” for a total volume of 427 cubic inches. It comes with the KLICKfix mounting system and a shoulder strap. The bag has a high-impact plastic perimeter frame so it holds its shape very well and stays securely on the bike. The lid is also fairly rigid, and is a snap to open and close. The bag includes attachment points for a map case, but the map case is not included. The map case can be purchased separately.

The KLICKfix mounting system is very versatile, and mounts securely to most handlebar shapes and almost all stem angles and designs. KLICKfix is lockable and comes with 2 keys. It will attach to handlebars ranging from 22.0 to 31.8 mm.

The Ultimate 5 handlebar bag uses Ortlieb’s normal bag construction, which starts with double-coated polyester fabric. This material is very rugged, puncture and abrasion resistant, and highly waterproof. Ortlieb then builds this material into a bag using welded seams, not sewn. Welded seams are expensive to construct, but they are stronger than sewn seams, and no needle holes means no need for extra waterproofing and no leaks. The result is a durable, waterproof bag, backed by a 5 year warranty against defects.

Note: the Ultimate 5 handlebar bag uses a snap closure rather than the roll-top closure that is standard on many of Ortlieb’s panniers and dry bags. The snap closure is used so the bag will be quick and easy to open and close. This closure keeps water out, but is not as dust-resistant as the roll-top closure on the other Ortlieb bags.
