Grand Tour of St. Genevieve
June 5 and 6, 2010

Spend a weekend riding along the mighty Mississippi River. We have been doing the Tour of St. Genevieve for the past 15 years, and it is one of our most popular weekend tours. We start Saturday in Columbia, Illinois, and ride along flat, quiet, low traffic Illinois back country roads south through the river valley. At ride’s end we cross the river on the Modoc Ferry and arrive in St. Genevieve, Missouri, in time to explore the town, eat dinner and settle in for the night. St. Genevieve is a lovely stopover point for the tour, especially for history and architecture buffs. The town is the oldest permanent European settlement west of the Mississippi (established in 1735), and has the largest collection of original French Colonial buildings in the United States. You’ll definitely want to spend some time visiting the downtown museums and shops. On Sunday we travel back across the ferry and ride back to Columbia.
We are not including accommodations in this tour package, but have arranged for a special rate of $61 for a double room at the Microtel Inn and Suites, located 2 miles from the St. Genevieve central square. Call the hotel at 573-883-8884 and tell them you are with the Touring Cyclist tour group to receive the special group rate. Rooms are also available at the St. Genevieve Hotel (573-883-3562). Make your room reservations early, as St. Genevieve has numerous festivals throughout the year and local hotels do fill up.
Cost for this tour is $35 per person. The price covers a group dinner Saturday night at the St. Genevieve Hotel, luggage transport to the hotels and back, water and snack breaks, map, sag and mechanical support. The price does not cover lodging, meals other than Saturday dinner (but breakfast is provided by the Microtel Inn), and ferry tolls ($4 each way). To sign up call Carol Boedeker at 314-739-4648 or write [tctours AT touringcyclist.com].
