With three young sons and a gas crisis in the 1970's, what better time to start a bicycle business? Over forty years later, in hindsight, it's been a very rewarding experience. From the beginning, our goal has been to put back into the community by offering bicycle tours as well as sales and service.
We have sold over 100,000 new bicycles in 40+ years and our customers have been the greatest asset to our success. We often have people come in who got their first bicycle from our store and often have customers just stop by to see how we're doing. Repeat customers are often greeted by name, which is truly what keeps us going as we continue to serve the greater St. Louis area.
Sean Maiscott: Lead Bicycle Mechanic
Sean has been with The Touring Cyclist for over 5 years now. With 25 years of experience as a cyclist in both mountain and road disciplines, Sean has been active in the industry for many years. In 2001, Sean began working at a local triathlon camp as coach, mechanic and instructor and continued there for 10 years. At the camp, Sean created and taught bicycle mechanics, helped develop training programs, worked with budding triathletes in areas of bike fit and ride technique and oversaw maintenance of a stable of up to 70 bicycles. In addition, Sean oversaw the creation of a program to quickly and safely teach younger non-riders to learn the joy of riding their bicycle.
Sean has recently reinforced and improved his mechanical and service technique at Appalachian Bicycle Institute in Asheville, North Carolina. With Sean’s addition to our mechanical staff and passion for the bicycle industry, we have added a new level of expertise to our name. So bring in your bicycle for service at The Touring Cyclist today. You’ll be glad you did!
